Console (Model) (2026) is a scale model of a large-scale sculpture that Bob Bicknell-Knight is currently producing.

Part factory, part console organ and part cathedral, the work has been conceived as an archaeological relic, occupying an ambiguous position between monument, infrastructure and ruin, suggesting a future in which contemporary systems of labour, worship and technological control have collapsed.

Exploring ideas of time, labour and worship, the sculpture brings together architectural languages associated with productivity, devotion and discipline. The console-like form references interfaces, control panels and machines that mediate contemporary labour, leisure and distraction, while the factory elements point toward industrial rhythms, forms of extraction and the mechanisation of bodies and time.

Architectural details drawn from churches, such as buttress-like supports pew-like forms, evoke ritualised belief systems and collective devotion, suggesting faith not only in religion but in work, progress and technology itself. These overlapping references reflect embedded power dynamics and the ways systems of control are normalised, or perhaps even subtly evoked, through architecture and design. By utilising certain architectural elements Bicknell-Knight hopes to draw attention to how technology has achieved an almost God-like status in our collective lives, alongside how in virtual worlds as the player or protagonist, you are a God-like figure, where the world is essentially built around your wants and needs.

Console (Model) has been included in the following exhibitions:
