Google’s Word Gives Life (2022) is a looping video exploring how relics and historical artefacts are perceived by future generations, surveillance culture, apocalyptic futures and the notion that human beings and our impact on the environment is virus-like, terra-forming and slowly obliterating the planet.
The video presents a structure resembling the Google logo, built by unknown people in a natural landscape. The work is set in the near future where the technology of the present has been lost. The technology platforms of today, and the ideas of community and connection, have been passed down through the generations of this future people, transforming the idea of Google into an almost God-like entity.
The work was produced as an accompaniment to The Forest, an interactive artwork developed during a 2022 residency at SODAS 2123 in Vilnius, LT.
Google’s Word Gives Life has been included in the following exhibitions:
– Moving Image Booth. At The Affordable Art Fair, Battersea, London, UK, 20th – 23rd October 2022.
