Colleen and Joshua, 2016
HD video with sound
6 mins 24 sec
A film installation exploring the life of two YouTuber’s and the breakup of their marriage, comparing and contrasting the videos they simultaneously uploaded to both of their channels when it was announced, interspersed with footage taken on their wedding day and stock footage of corporate offices and people in suits. Within the work their heads are used as paddles for a game of Pong, one of the first commercially successful video games, developed in 1972.
The film was originally shown as an installation with a custom deck chair, with the Freedom of Internet Act printed onto the canvas. Years later the work evolved, being exhibited on a structure made from an aluminium extrusion system.
The work playfully explores ideas of transparency in the internet age and whether anything we see online is in fact real.
